Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a high-level meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Baku, focusing on strengthening the long-standing friendly ties between Pakistan and Azerbaijan. The leaders discussed ways to enhance cooperation in key areas such as trade, investment, energy, infrastructure, and economic development.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Summit, hosted by Azerbaijan this year. Prime Minister Shehbaz congratulated President Aliyev on the exemplary hosting of the summit, highlighting the significance of ECO as a platform for regional collaboration. He also thanked the Azerbaijani leadership for the warm hospitality extended to the Pakistani delegation during their recent visit to the city of Lachin, which holds strategic importance.
During their discussions, Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed deep appreciation for Azerbaijan’s steadfast support for Pakistan amid recent tensions with India, noting that Pakistan has reciprocated by consistently standing in solidarity with Azerbaijan on critical regional issues, including Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
Both leaders reviewed progress on ongoing joint investment projects and agreed to explore new opportunities for expanding bilateral trade and economic cooperation. They emphasized boosting mutual investments in sectors such as energy, technology, agriculture, and infrastructure development, aiming to create a win-win partnership that benefits both nations.
Reaffirming their commitment to deepen economic ties, the two leaders agreed to increase high-level exchanges and institutional collaboration to facilitate trade and investment. In a positive gesture, Prime Minister Shehbaz extended a renewed invitation to President Aliyev to visit Pakistan at the earliest opportunity, which the Azerbaijani leader warmly welcomed, underscoring the importance of frequent dialogue to advance the strong friendship between the two countries.
