Pakistan, Azerbaijan ink $2 billion investment deal: PM Shehbaz

Published on: July 4, 2025 10:40 PM

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has confirmed that Pakistan and Azerbaijan have signed a $2 billion investment agreement, aimed at boosting economic cooperation between the two countries. The announcement came during the PM’s official visit to Baku, where he met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

Speaking to the media, PM Shehbaz called his meeting with President Aliyev “exceptionally positive and result-oriented”. He thanked the Azerbaijani leadership for their trust and support in Pakistan’s economy and added that more investment and joint ventures are expected in the future. The sectors under consideration include energy, infrastructure, and technology.

The Prime Minister also congratulated President Aliyev on the successful hosting of the 17th Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) summit, held in Azerbaijan’s capital. He praised Azerbaijan’s efforts to strengthen regional connectivity and economic integration among ECO member states.

While addressing the ECO summit, PM Shehbaz strongly condemned Israel’s ongoing aggression in Gaza, mourning the loss of innocent lives and extending heartfelt condolences to Iran over recent martyrdoms. He prayed for the swift recovery of the injured and emphasized the need for global action to end violence in the region.

He also thanked ECO nations for expressing solidarity with Pakistan in response to Indian aggression, stressing that Gaza remains “a symbol of unimaginable, human-made suffering.” The $2 billion agreement marks a major milestone in Pakistan’s economic diplomacy, especially as the country seeks foreign investment to stabilize its economy amid challenging geopolitical circumstances.
