No Nawaz-Imran meeting: Ishaq Dar denies jail visit rumours, calls it ‘pure gossip’

Published on: July 5, 2025 5:13 PM

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has denied all rumours regarding a secret meeting between PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif and PTI Chairman Imran Khan. Speaking to the media at Lahore’s Data Darbar, he clarified that Nawaz did not visit Adiala Jail and labeled such reports as “fabricated and misleading.” He said these rumours aim to create confusion and have no link to reality.

Dar also addressed coalition politics, confirming that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) remains a trustworthy ally. He appreciated PPP’s mature stance and said they have not demanded ministerial posts. “We stood by them in tough times, and we won’t leave them in good times,” he assured. He emphasized that the government is working in close cooperation with all parties to ensure political stability.

Talking about the economic front, Dar credited Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for recent economic gains. He highlighted the significant drop in interest rates from 22% to 11%, saying this was a result of relentless efforts. He added that economic growth would eventually raise per capita income, improve investor confidence, and create more jobs.

On national defense, Dar said India had started aggression against Pakistan, but the country responded with full force. He mentioned that Pakistan had shot down six Indian aircraft, proving that even a much larger enemy can be defeated with courage. “Our armed forces are the pride of the nation,” he added, while assuring that Pakistan continues its firm stance against terrorism.

Regarding foreign policy, Dar said Pakistan demonstrated true friendship with Iran by strongly condemning Israeli actions. He said Pakistan extended diplomatic support to Iran during recent tensions and continues to promote peace in the region. He also noted that arrangements for the annual Urs of Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh were completed, with security, accommodation, and other facilities provided for thousands of devotees.
