Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari spoke at a press conference in Lahore, criticizing the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). She questioned why the PTI founder, whose children reportedly hold British citizenship, has not arranged Pakistani citizenship for them yet. Bukhari pointed out that his children can visit him anytime since they have British nationality.
She also mocked the PTI founder’s calls for retweeting his posts and noted that he has already held 66 meetings despite being imprisoned. She sarcastically suggested he could even hold a rally inside jail. Moreover, the jail superintendent revealed that he receives special treatment, including separate meals cooked just for him.
Bukhari then highlighted the corruption scandals unfolding in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), saying billions of rupees are involved but no serious action has been taken. She mentioned internal conflicts within PTI, including family disputes among its leaders. She said KP’s people expressed dissatisfaction, with 71% voting for Maryam Nawaz instead of PTI’s Ali Amin Gandapur.
Turning to Punjab, Bukhari praised the government’s handling of the monsoon season. Despite heavy rainfall and flooding across Pakistan, Punjab authorities acted swiftly to clear roads and drain water from low-lying areas. She emphasized that the city streets remained mostly dry the next morning, minimizing disruption to daily life.
Bukhari announced the formation of a new paramilitary force in Punjab just two days ago. This force will include more than 50,000 personnel, all fully trained and equipped to conduct transparent investigations. It will have its own investigative cell and will operate throughout the province to maintain law and order.
