Swat police neutralize 3 Indian-backed militants

Published on: July 26, 2025 5:31 PM

In a coordinated operation on Saturday, Swat police and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) successfully killed three key operatives of Fitna al-Khawarij, a group identified as an Indian proxy. One of the terrorists was a high-value target with a bounty of Rs2 million. Authorities said this operation dealt a serious blow to the terror network operating in the region.

The slain terrorists included Ajmal alias Waqas, who was accused of murdering members of a Village Defence Council and was on the most-wanted list. The other two killed were Matiullah, also known by the names Ishaq and Junaid, and Rahimullah Rehmani, known as Rohullah. These individuals were involved in violent attacks against security forces and police personnel.

Officials revealed that the group was also responsible for multiple IED (Improvised Explosive Device) attacks and extortion schemes in the area. The terrorists reportedly received foreign funding aimed at destabilizing the region and spreading terror. The CTD emphasized that the operation significantly disrupted the group’s ability to carry out future attacks.

Regional Police Officer Sher Akbar Khan called the operation a decisive victory and pledged ongoing efforts to dismantle Fitna al-Khawarij’s presence in Swat and nearby districts. Meanwhile, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed commended the CTD and local police for their effective coordination and said counter-terrorism operations would intensify to ensure peace.

This operation highlights the government’s firm commitment to eradicating terrorism and ensuring lasting security for residents. Officials reassured the public that they would continue their crackdown on terrorist networks to protect lives and restore stability in the province.
