Netflix’s hit dark fantasy series Wednesday returned with a star-studded global premiere in London, nearly three years after its November 2022 debut. The cast and creators walked a striking purple carpet outside Westminster’s Central Hall, celebrating the launch of Season Two.
Jenna Ortega reprises her role as the iconic Wednesday Addams, now hailed as a hero at Nevermore Academy—though she’s far from thrilled. This season, Wednesday dives back into solving eerie supernatural mysteries while struggling with unpredictable glitches in her psychic abilities. Family drama also unfolds as her mischievous brother Pugsley, played by Isaac Ordonez, starts at Nevermore, and their over-involved parents frequently visit.
Creators and showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar describe this season as “bigger and better,” with deeper storylines for returning characters and fresh faces like Steve Buscemi as Nevermore’s strict principal Barry Dort, and Joanna Lumley as the Addams’ enigmatic matriarch, Grandmama Hester Frump. Pop icon Lady Gaga makes a surprise guest appearance as a mysterious teacher in Part 2.
At its core, the new season explores complex mother-daughter dynamics across three generations of Addams women, alongside themes of female friendship and sisterhood. Ortega, who also served as executive producer, spoke about the creative freedom she enjoyed, helping shape the season’s tone and character arcs.
Tim Burton returns as a director and executive producer, ensuring the show retains its signature gothic style. Wednesday Season Two will be released in two four-episode installments, with Part One streaming on August 6 and Part Two arriving September 3.
