A new case of polio has been confirmed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Tank district. According to the National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC), the affected child is 10 months old. This case adds to growing concerns over polio’s persistence in the region. Southern KP remains one of the hardest-hit areas.
NEOC reported that this new case brings the total number of polio cases in Pakistan this year to 18. Most of these cases have emerged from high-risk zones in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Health officials believe low vaccination rates and security challenges contribute to the problem. Remote areas remain especially vulnerable.
To counter the outbreak, NEOC is preparing a new action plan. This plan will focus on southern KP, where polio continues to spread. Officials are reviewing strategies to improve vaccination coverage. Special attention will be given to areas with repeated cases and weak health infrastructure.
The government and international partners are working together to eliminate the disease. Despite progress in many regions, polio remains a serious threat in Pakistan. Health experts say strong surveillance and community cooperation are key to stopping transmission.
NEOC urged parents to ensure their children receive all polio vaccine doses. It stressed that early protection is the best defense against the virus. As efforts intensify, authorities hope to prevent future cases and move closer to a polio-free Pakistan.
