PM Shehbaz sends ministers to flood-hit Punjab

Published on: August 27, 2025 3:40 PM

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered federal ministers to immediately visit flood-affected areas in Punjab. He asked them to personally monitor rescue and relief efforts. The Prime Minister stressed that ministers must stay present in their own constituencies during the crisis.

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said ministers will oversee evacuations and help manage aid efforts on the ground. This directive comes as the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) warned of more heavy rain. Several districts in Punjab and Azad Jammu and Kashmir are at risk.

People have been advised to avoid rivers, streams, and low-lying areas. Officials also asked citizens not to travel unnecessarily. The River Sutlej is already at a high flood level near Ganda Singh Wala. NDMA said further water releases from India may cause it to rise even more.

Prime Minister Shehbaz also directed the NDMA to work closely with the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA). He told them to issue early warnings and help relocate people at risk. Immediate support must be given to local authorities, he added.

Finally, the Prime Minister stressed faster relief and better coordination. He said people living near rivers must be moved quickly to safe places. All agencies must act without delay. The goal is to save lives and reduce damage during this dangerous situation.
