Karachi faced heavy rainfall this week, resulting in four deaths, according to Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah. He toured several rain-hit areas in the city and said the situation is now under control. However, he admitted some planning failures, especially around the Northern Bypass.
During his visit, the CM said rainwater entered Saadi Town and Saadi Gardens due to poor drainage planning. He pointed out that ongoing construction on the Northern Bypass lacked proper strategy. He also blamed multi-story buildings on green belts in cantonment areas for making the situation worse.
Shah stressed that flood preparedness across Sindh is complete. He urged critics to highlight weaknesses but avoid making ethnic-based remarks. He said criticism is welcome when it’s constructive and helps improve services.
Earlier, the CM inspected several areas, including Qayyumabad and Korangi Causeway. He reviewed drainage efforts and spoke to local officials. Shah said water near Korangi will clear soon as Malir River levels go down. He ordered teams to keep citizens informed about low-lying danger zones.
Later, Shah visited Lyari River and Jinnah Avenue to check water flow and drainage work. He explained that Lyari River carries rainwater from hilly areas like Manghopir and Gadap. It passes through key neighborhoods before reaching the port. He urged all departments to speed up drainage efforts and stay fully alert.
