
A mild earthquake jolted Gilgit-Baltistan on Sunday, sparking brief panic among residents. Tremors were felt in Gilgit, Skardu, Astore, and surrounding areas, forcing many people to rush outdoors in fear.
According to the Seismological Center, the quake measured 3.7 on the Richter scale and struck at a depth of 25 kilometers. Its epicenter was recorded 34 kilometers southwest of Skardu.
Although the tremors created alarm for a short while, there were no immediate reports of injuries or significant damage. Authorities have confirmed that essential infrastructure remains intact across the affected regions.
Officials stated that monitoring systems are active to track aftershocks and ensure timely updates for local communities. Citizens have been urged to remain cautious but avoid unnecessary panic, as the situation remains under control.
Life has gradually returned to normal in Gilgit-Baltistan after the scare, with businesses, schools, and transport resuming routine operations. However, emergency teams remain on standby in case of any unexpected developments.
