FIA opens advanced immigration screening unit at Sialkot airport

Published on: September 23, 2025 6:00 PM

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has launched a high-tech immigration screening unit at Sialkot Airport to strengthen border security and stop illegal migration and human trafficking. Established under the supervision of FIA’s Gujranwala Directorate, the project was completed in collaboration with the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) and supported by the Embassy of Denmark.

Equipped with modern forensic and IT systems, the unit can quickly identify forged visas, fake passports, and suspicious travel documents. Officials highlighted that the upgraded system meets global standards, offering faster and more accurate checks for passengers and improving overall airport security.

This development follows similar “Second Line” immigration offices already operating at major airports in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Multan, and Peshawar. The addition of Sialkot marks another step in modernizing Pakistan’s border management and shows progress in aligning with international best practices.

Authorities explained that the initiative will help ensure safe and regulated migration while reducing risks posed by human trafficking networks. They noted that better technology and training will allow immigration officers to respond more effectively to potential threats.

The FIA reaffirmed its commitment to expanding its partnership with ICMPD to further improve Pakistan’s border controls. Officials said additional improvements and facilities are planned to protect the country’s borders and provide travelers with a secure and efficient immigration process.
