First Lady of Pakistan, Bibi Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, has urged women across the country to take breast cancer seriously by giving priority to their health and well-being. In her message at the start of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Bibi Aseefa Bhutto Zardari said that breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in Pakistan, with every ninth woman at risk of being affected in her lifetime. She stressed that early detection can save lives, with survival rates reaching up to 90 percent when the disease is diagnosed and treated in time. She encouraged women to carry out regular self-examinations, seek clinical check-ups after the age of thirty, undergo mammograms after forty, and immediately consult a doctor if any abnormality is noticed. She also underlined the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle as a way to reduce risks. The First Lady noted that many dedicated organisations, doctors, nurses, volunteers, and community groups have been working for years to raise awareness and support women battling breast cancer. She said their work deserves appreciation and recognition. Calling for collective responsibility, Bibi Aseefa Bhutto Zardari said that families, communities, and society as a whole must stand by women and support them in seeking timely medical care. “If through awareness and treatment we can save even one mother, one sister, or one daughter, we are in fact saving generations,” she said.
