ATC orders arrest of Omar Ayub, Zartaj Gul in Sangjani rally case

Published on: October 6, 2025 4:25 PM

An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad has issued arrest warrants for senior PTI leaders Omar Ayub, Zartaj Gul, and Sheikh Waqas Akram. The warrants are linked to the Sangjani rally case, where PTI supporters clashed with police near Islamabad in September 2024. ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra issued the orders after reviewing arguments.

The court has directed authorities to arrest the three leaders and present them in court. PTI confirmed the development on social media, while Sheikh Waqas also shared the news on his X (formerly Twitter) account. This comes as part of ongoing legal action against PTI members involved in protests following Imran Khan’s arrest.

The Sangjani rally, held on September 8, 2024, sparked intense clashes between PTI supporters and Islamabad police. Protesters demanded Imran Khan’s release and denounced what they called political victimization. The protest turned violent, leading to arrests and multiple cases against PTI leaders.

Over the following two days, at least 10 PTI MNAs were arrested across the capital. Omar Ayub and other party figures had earlier been granted interim bail, which was extended several times, including in a February 2025 hearing. However, the court has now moved to issue arrest warrants as proceedings escalate.

The arrest orders mark another blow to PTI’s top leadership as legal pressures continue to mount. With party leaders facing court action and political unrest simmering, tensions remain high ahead of any upcoming elections or party mobilization.
