The DG ISPR shared fresh data on counterterrorism operations from 2024 and 2025. He said more than 24,000 intelligence-based operations were carried out in two years. These operations killed over 1,600 terrorists. Sadly, more than 1,000 lives were lost during this period, including soldiers, police, and civilians. He added that many foreign terrorists were also killed, most of them Afghan nationals. This marks the highest number of foreign terrorists eliminated in a single year in the past decade.
Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif also identified five main reasons why terrorism still exists. First, the National Action Plan has not been fully followed. Second, some political groups have used terrorism for their own agendas. Third, India is using Afghan soil to support terrorism in Pakistan. Fourth, terrorists in Afghanistan are receiving weapons and shelter. Fifth, some local and political groups are protecting criminal and terrorist networks. He warned that these factors are feeding violence and must be addressed quickly.
