Gandapur faces no-confidence vote as PTI pushes for change

Published on: October 11, 2025 1:07 PM

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to remove Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur through a no-confidence motion. This decision follows Governor Faisal Karim Kundi’s refusal to accept Gandapur’s resignation. PTI has called an emergency session of the provincial assembly for today to take up the motion. The party aims to replace Gandapur with a new leader amid the ongoing political uncertainty.

Gandapur had submitted his resignation earlier this week, stepping down from the chief minister’s post. PTI nominated Sohail Afridi as his successor to lead the province. However, the governor stated he had not yet officially received Gandapur’s resignation. Therefore, the resignation remains unaccepted, prompting PTI to take a different approach.

During a late-night meeting, PTI leadership decided to file a no-confidence motion against Gandapur. The provincial assembly will meet at 3 PM today to discuss and vote on the motion. This move aims to remove Gandapur through parliamentary procedure and ensure a smooth transition of power. PTI hopes to secure enough support to elect a new chief minister.

The emergency session will be critical in determining KP’s political future. PTI faces pressure to maintain unity and manage the leadership change quickly. The party’s decision reflects its urgency to resolve the leadership issue legally and politically. Members of the assembly are expected to debate the motion thoroughly.

The no-confidence vote will reveal the strength of PTI’s position in the provincial assembly. The session will be closely watched by political analysts and citizens alike. The outcome will shape KP’s governance and stability in the coming months. PTI leaders remain hopeful that their plan will bring clarity and new leadership soon.
