Zelensky hails Gaza ceasefire as hope for Ukraine

Published on: October 13, 2025 9:13 PM

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky praised the Gaza ceasefire as a hopeful sign for peace worldwide. He said that success in one region could inspire efforts to end conflicts elsewhere, including Ukraine. Zelensky expressed optimism that global leaders, including U.S. President Donald Trump, can work toward peace in his country.

Since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, the conflict has caused thousands of deaths and displaced millions. Despite multiple talks and a summit between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, no major progress toward peace has been made. Russia demands Ukraine’s surrender in exchange for peace, which Kyiv rejects.

Trump once claimed he could end the war quickly, but frustration has grown due to stalled talks. Recently, he stated that Ukraine could regain all territory lost to Russia, which currently controls about 20% of the country, including Crimea.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz also urged Trump to use his influence to help resolve the Ukraine conflict. Merz, attending the same summit in Egypt, said he would discuss the war with Trump and called for continued diplomatic efforts.
