
GUJRAT: The University of Gujrat (UoG) Syndicate, during its 52nd meeting held at the Hafiz Hayat Campus on Thursday, approved major initiatives to enhance student services, academic performance, and institutional development.
A key highlight was the approval of 27 new buses to expand the university’s transport fleet, improving travel facilities for students.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr Zahoor ul Haq thanked the Syndicate for its support and shared that UoG had made strong progress since January 2025 through transparency, discipline, and reforms.

He outlined several key measures, including a new Workload Policy that standardizes 40 working hours per week for all faculty members — expected to save over Rs100 million annually. Direct fuel procurement from PSO is also projected to save Rs90 million per year.
Focusing on student welfare, Dr Zahoor announced a Rs250 million Scholarship Policy, benefiting over 4,200 students, including nearly 1,000 orphans and single-parent students. Every fifth student at UoG is now studying on a university-funded scholarship. The university also recorded Rs1.1 billion in revenue this semester.
UoG introduced 36 new academic programs, with 13 already active and enrolling 915 students — generating Rs55 million in new revenue expected to rise to Rs300 million in four years.

The Syndicate approved major budget allocations for FY 2025–26, including:

Rs500 million for the new transport fleet
UoG also achieved global recognition, ranking 363rd worldwide in Research Quality in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026, placing it among Pakistan’s top ten universities. Its Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) earned Category “W” from the Higher Education Commission (HEC) with a record score of 85.09 points.
The Syndicate also approved the restructuring of the Recruitment Complaint Redressal Cell to improve transparency in grievance handling.

The meeting, attended by provincial lawmakers, senior academics, and education officials, praised UoG’s strong financial management, growing reputation, and inclusive policies. Members reaffirmed their commitment to modernizing higher education and promoting youth development for Pakistan’s progress.
