Pakistan has taken a major step forward in space technology by successfully launching its first hyperspectral satellite, HS-1, from China’s Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center.
A team of Pakistani scientists and engineers supervised the mission, which is being hailed as a landmark achievement under Pakistan’s National Space Policy and Vision 2047.
According to SUPARCO (Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission), the HS-1 satellite will undergo two months of in-orbit testing before beginning full operations. It is designed to help forecast floods, landslides, and other natural disasters, as well as monitor environmental changes and detect geological risks early.

This marks Pakistan’s third space mission in 2025, following the successful launches of EO-1 in January and KS-1 in July, both of which are now fully operational.
Officials said the HS-1 launch reflects Pakistan’s growing capability in space science and its commitment to using technology for national progress, disaster preparedness, and sustainable development.
