General Sahir Shamshad Mirza visits Maldives, strengthens defense ties

Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Sahir Shamshad Mirza visited Maldives on an official trip. He met President Dr. Mohamed Muiz, Defense Minister Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon, and Chief of Defence Forces Major General Ibrahim Helmy. The meetings aimed to strengthen bilateral relations and enhance regional security cooperation. The discussions also covered emerging security challenges in the Indian Ocean region.

During the talks, both sides reviewed global and regional security concerns. They discussed issues of mutual interest, including defense collaboration, intelligence sharing, and joint military exercises. Pakistan also offered technical and training support to Maldives’ armed forces to boost their operational capacity.

The meetings highlighted opportunities to further develop military ties. Both countries expressed commitment to deepen strategic partnerships. They agreed to continue cooperation in maritime security, counter-terrorism measures, and disaster response coordination.

Maldives’ civilian and military leadership praised Pakistan Armed Forces for their professionalism. They recognized Pakistan’s sacrifices in the fight against terrorism. Both sides emphasized maintaining strong defense ties to ensure regional peace and stability.

Earlier, General Mirza was welcomed at the Maldives National Defence Force headquarters with a formal guard of honor. The ceremony reflected mutual respect and reinforced the importance of Pakistan-Maldives defense relations.
