Mother of martyred journalist Arshad Sharif passes away

Published on: October 26, 2025 2:48 PM

ISLAMABAD – Riffat Ara Alvi, the mother of martyred journalist Arshad Sharif, passed away after a brief illness, as confirmed by Javeria Siddique, the wife of the late journalist.

Family sources said that details regarding her funeral prayers and burial will be announced later.

Arshad Sharif’s mother had been actively pursuing her son’s case, following his killing in Kenya by the police in October 2022.

Earlier, on December 3, 2022, the investigation committee formed to probe the journalist’s killing submitted its report—spanning over 400 pages—to the Secretary of Interior. The report included information gathered from Kenya and Dubai, according to sources.

Arshad Sharif, a senior journalist and former ARY News anchor, was shot dead in Nairobi, where he had been living in self-exile. Kenyan police initially claimed it was a case of mistaken identity, but local and international media later questioned the official narrative, demanding transparency and justice in the case.
