Fazl and Bilawal Discuss Joint Political Strategy

The Fazl Bilawal meeting in Islamabad on Monday focused on forming a joint strategy for Pakistan’s key political and parliamentary issues. PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari met JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman at his residence to discuss new legislation and possible parliamentary cooperation. Both leaders agreed that opposition parties should play a stronger role in the country’s political future.

According to JUI-F sources, the discussion mainly revolved around unity between opposition forces and upcoming constitutional amendments. Bilawal stressed the need for coordination among opposition parties on national decisions. Maulana Fazl raised concerns about the government’s attitude toward the opposition, calling for mutual respect and dialogue. The Fazl Bilawal meeting comes amid rising political tension and growing calls for joint opposition action.

Just a day earlier, a senior JUI-F leader had announced plans to march on Islamabad and hold nationwide protests. The protests aim to oppose what the party calls “flawed government policies.” During the meeting, PPP and JUI-F leaders also discussed cooperation on national issues such as security, the economy, and electoral reforms. Both sides agreed that a united approach was necessary to ensure political stability.

The leaders also reviewed Pakistan’s foreign policy challenges, especially the recent tension with Afghanistan. They discussed the ongoing talks between the two countries in Turkiye after brief border clashes. The PPP delegation included Syed Nayyar Hussain Bukhari, Humayun Khan, and Jamil Soomro, while the JUI-F side included Maulana Asad Mahmood and Mufti Abrar. The Fazl Bilawal meeting showed signs of emerging collaboration between the two opposition parties.

Meanwhile, PTI leader Salman Akram Raja dismissed the idea of any alliance with the JUI-F. He said the PTI had “no interest” in seeking the party’s support for the National Assembly opposition leader slot. Raja added that, based on past experience, he did not expect the JUI-F to align with the PTI. This statement further highlighted the complex political landscape that Bilawal and Fazl are trying to navigate.
