New 10-member cabinet takes oath in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Published on: October 31, 2025 5:02 PM

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s new 10-member cabinet took oath on Friday. Governor Faisal Karim Kundi administered the oath to the newly appointed ministers. The ceremony was held at Governor House in Peshawar. Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, assembly members, and senior civil officials attended the event.

The cabinet includes Aftab Alam, Amjad Ali, Fazal Shakoor Khan, Arshad Ayub, Mina Khan, Khaliq-ur-Rehman, Riaz Khan, Fakhar Jahan, Aqibullah, and Faisal Turkai. Additionally, Mazmil Aslam and Taj Muhammad were appointed as advisers to the chief minister. Shafi Jan was named special assistant, bringing the total cabinet strength to 13 members.

The cabinet formation followed Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur’s resignation on October 8. PTI General Secretary Salman Akram Raja confirmed that PTI Chairman Imran Khan directed the appointment of Sohail Afridi as the new chief minister. The resignation process faced delays due to signature discrepancies, causing temporary legal uncertainty.

On October 13, the provincial assembly elected Sohail Afridi as the 30th chief minister with 90 votes. Governor Kundi initially termed the election unconstitutional until Gandapur’s resignation was formally accepted. The matter reached Peshawar High Court, which ordered the governor to administer the oath to Afridi by October 15.

Following the court’s directive, Governor Faisal Karim Kundi returned from Karachi and administered the oath. PTI and PPP leaders supported the process, emphasizing respect for judicial orders. The new cabinet now assumes office, marking a fresh start for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s provincial government.
