
LAHORE – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has called for an end to violence and oppression against journalists who speak the truth, emphasizing that freedom of the press is vital for democracy.
In her message marking the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists, she said that responsible journalism forms the foundation of a strong democratic society. Journalists, she added, are the “guardians of social justice and the voice of the people.”

Maryam Nawaz reaffirmed her government’s commitment to protecting press freedom and announced initiatives to safeguard journalists’ rights, including efforts to help homeless journalists own homes. She vowed that her administration stands with those who follow the path of truth.
The chief minister also paid tribute to journalists who lost their lives or suffered for speaking the truth, asserting that journalism and journalists are safe in Punjab. She expressed hope that, by the grace of Allah, no such incidents will occur in the province.
