Imran Khan blocks PTI’s reconciliation efforts with establishment

Published on: November 3, 2025 11:42 AM

ISLAMABAD – Despite persistent attempts by senior and former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders to initiate dialogue with the government and the military establishment, the party remains locked in a confrontational stance — largely due to Imran Khan’s uncompromising position.

Sources reveal that multiple PTI figures, both in and out of jail, have quietly pushed for political dialogue, arguing that constant confrontation has further isolated the party and damaged its prospects. Their efforts, however, have been dismissed by Khan, who refuses to engage with the ruling coalition.

Just days after senior PTI leaders from Kot Lakhpat Jail publicly backed the idea of talks, Khan, speaking from Adiala Jail on July 8, rejected the proposal, declaring that “the time for negotiations is over” and announcing a nationwide protest movement beginning in August.

Political analysts say Khan’s unyielding approach towards the military and the government leaves little chance for reconciliation. Even within PTI, many admit that meaningful dialogue cannot begin unless Khan softens his tone. However, deep-seated distrust within the establishment—rooted in Khan’s years of public criticism—makes rapprochement unlikely.

Observers suggest PTI’s political revival may depend on an alternative leadership figure acceptable to power circles, such as Shah Mehmood Qureshi or Chaudhry Pervez Elahi. But for now, PTI remains firmly under Khan’s defiant leadership, with confrontation overshadowing any chance of political normalisation.
