Pakistan, South Africa set for second ODI clash today

Published on: November 6, 2025 1:04 AM

The second One-Day International (ODI) of the ongoing cricket series between Pakistan and South Africa will be played at Iqbal Stadium today, with Pakistan leading the three-match series 1-0.

After a strong performance in the opening encounter, the home side will look to seal the series while the visitors aim to bounce back and keep the contest alive.

According to official details, this will be the 18th ODI match to be played at Iqbal Stadium which has long been known for its passionate cricket crowds and batting-friendly conditions.

Pakistan has a dominant record at this venue, having played 13 ODIs, winning 10 and losing only three.

In contrast, the South African side has featured in six ODIs at the same ground, winning two and losing four.

These statistics give Pakistan a clear psychological advantage going into Thursday’s high-stakes encounter.

The series forms part of South Africa’s ongoing tour of Pakistan which has already seen the two sides compete in both the Test and T20I formats.

The Test series ended in a 1-1 draw, reflecting the evenly matched nature of both teams in the longer format while Pakistan claimed the T20I series 2-1, showcasing their strength in limited-overs cricket.

Cricket enthusiasts in Faisalabad are eagerly anticipating Thursday’s contest, with local fans expected to fill the stands at Iqbal Stadium.

The pitch is likely to favor batsmen early on, though spinners could play a key role in the later stages of the match, given Faisalabad’s traditionally dry surface.

Pakistan’s squad for the ODI series includes a blend of youth and experience, featuring: Shaheen Shah Afridi (captain), Abrar Ahmed, Babar Azam, Faheem Ashraf, Faisal Akram, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Haseebullah, Hasan Nawaz, Hussain Talat, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan (wicketkeeper), Mohammad Wasim Jr., Naseem Shah, Saim Ayub and Salman Ali Agha.

Team officials expressed confidence that the squad is well-prepared and motivated to maintain its winning momentum.

For South Africa, the focus will be on adapting quickly to local conditions and countering Pakistan’s strong bowling combination.

Their batsmen will be looking to build partnerships and handle Pakistan’s pace and spin with greater discipline than in the previous match.

The second ODI promises to be an intense contest between two competitive sides while Pakistan will look to secure an unassailable lead in the series and South Africa is determined to stage a comeback.
