PTI rejects 27th constitutional amendment, calls it suspicious

PTI parliamentary session rejects 27th constitutional amendment

ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) parliamentary party has strongly rejected the 27th Constitutional Amendment, describing it as suspicious and unacceptable. The decision came during a parliamentary party meeting chaired by Senate Parliamentary Leader Senator Ali Zafar, with attendance from Senators Allama Nasir Abbas, Noor-ul-Haq Qadri, Falak Naz, Dr. Humayun Mehmood, and others.

During the session, PTI strategized for the upcoming Senate proceedings and announced plans to protest the exclusion of cases involving PTI founder Imran Khan and his spouse from being heard in higher courts. The party accused the ruling coalition, including the PML-N, PPP, and allies, of bypassing constitutional and ethical norms by forcefully pushing legislation.

PTI stated that the amendment undermines parliamentary principles by sidelining the opposition and poses a threat to fundamental human rights. The party also expressed concern over efforts to curtail the independence and authority of the judiciary.

The PTI further criticized delays in notifying the Senate opposition leader and demanded the immediate issuance of the notification for Allama Nasir Abbas, nominated by party founder Imran Khan. Party members were tasked with coordinating with independent senators to strengthen opposition against the amendment.

Reiterating its stance, PTI said the 27th amendment violates democratic principles and pledged to continue raising objections both inside and outside the Senate until proper constitutional procedures are observed.
