ICC fines Pakistan after ODI win over Sri Lanka

Published on: November 13, 2025 5:54 PM

Rawalpindi: The International Cricket Council (ICC) fined Pakistan for a slow over rate in the first ODI against Sri Lanka.
The match was played on November 11 in Rawalpindi as part of a three-match ODI series.
Pakistan completed four overs fewer than the scheduled number, prompting the ICC to impose a penalty.

The ICC announced Pakistan would forfeit 20 percent of the match fee due to the slow over rate.
Captain Shaheen Afridi accepted the fine on behalf of the team, acknowledging the breach of rules.
Despite the penalty, Pakistan won the match narrowly, defeating Sri Lanka by six runs in a tense contest.

The slow over rate drew criticism, as maintaining the schedule is a key requirement in international cricket.

Officials said the ICC strictly monitors over rates to ensure fairness and smooth conduct of matches.
Analysts noted that adherence to time regulations is especially important in closely contested series like this.

Pakistan will now prepare for the remaining two ODIs against Sri Lanka, aiming to avoid further penalties.
The team is also focused on improving pace and efficiency in bowling and fielding to maintain match standards.
Fans are eager to see stronger performance in the next games as the series continues in Rawalpindi.
