Chennai, Nov 14, 2025: An Indian Air Force (IAF) Pilatus PC-7 Mk II trainer aircraft crashed near Tambaram during a routine training mission. The pilot ejected safely, and no injuries or civilian property damage were reported. The IAF has ordered a Court of Inquiry to investigate the incident.
The crash occurred around 2:25 pm, scattering debris across an open area. Locals rushed to the site after hearing the impact. A video shared by PTI on X showed parts of the aircraft lying on the ground as residents gathered nearby.

The IAF confirmed that the aircraft was on a standard training sortie when it crashed. In its official statement, the force emphasized that the pilot’s quick ejection prevented any casualties. The Court of Inquiry will determine the cause of the accident.
This incident adds to a series of IAF aircraft accidents in 2025. Earlier in February, a Mirage 2000 trainer jet crashed in Madhya Pradesh, and in July, two Jaguar fighter pilots died in Rajasthan. These frequent accidents have raised concerns about fleet maintenance and pilot training protocols.

The PC-7 Mk II is a Swiss-made trainer used widely by the IAF for pilot instruction. Authorities continue to review safety measures, and the investigation aims to prevent future mishaps during training exercises.
