Punjab extends Section 144 for another week to maintain law and order

Punjab extends Section 144 for seven more days

LAHORE – The Punjab Home Department on Monday announced the extension of Section 144 enforcement across the province for an additional seven days. The decision aims to maintain a complete ban on protests, rallies, public gatherings, sit-ins, and other similar activities.

Under Section 144, no more than four individuals are allowed to assemble in public places. Authorities have also prohibited the public display of weapons and restricted the use of loudspeakers, except for the call to prayer (Azaan) and Friday sermons. The publication or distribution of provocative, hate-based, or sectarian material remains strictly banned.

Officials stated that the extension is intended to protect lives and property, prevent exploitation of public gatherings for anti-state activities, and mitigate potential threats posed by terrorists targeting large crowds. The restrictions, however, do not apply to wedding ceremonies, funerals, or official duties of government and law enforcement personnel.

The notification issued by the Home Department extends Section 144 until Saturday, November 22, and authorities have been directed to carry out public awareness campaigns to ensure compliance.
