Bangladesh’s Mushfiqur Rahim joined an elite group of cricketers after scoring a century in his 100th Test, reaching the milestone against Ireland in Mirpur on Thursday. Resuming the day on 99, the 38-year-old completed his hundred with a single in the second over of the morning session on day two, celebrating by raising his hands skywards and dropping to the ground.

This achievement places Mushfiqur alongside cricketing legends such as Ricky Ponting, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Joe Root, and David Warner, who have also scored centuries in their 100th Tests. The innings marked Mushfiqur’s 13th Test century, equalling Mominul Haque for the most Test hundreds by a Bangladeshi batter.

He was eventually dismissed for 106 by Ireland’s left-arm spinner Matthew Humphreys, edging to second slip where Andy Balbirnie completed the catch. The home crowd at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium applauded his performance, and even the Ireland players acknowledged the milestone with warm applause.

Mushfiqur faced 214 deliveries, hitting five boundaries, and helped stabilize Bangladesh’s innings after they had slumped to 95-3 on the opening day. His performance strengthens Bangladesh’s lead in the two-match series, after they won the first Test by an innings and 47 runs.
