Proclaimed offender extradited from Dubai; two motorcyclists killed in Lodhran

Published on: November 22, 2025 11:03 AM

BAHAWALPUR: Lodhran police successfully extradited a proclaimed offender (PO) wanted in a 2013 murder case from Dubai, authorities said on Friday. The suspect, Zulfiqar, allegedly shot Altaf dead on June 7, 2013, in Dunyapur city police limits over an old enmity.

After months of investigation, police traced Zulfiqar, who fled to Dubai before he could be arrested and was subsequently declared a proclaimed offender. The Lodhran DPO contacted Interpol, which issued a Red Notice, and a joint operation between Punjab Police and Dubai authorities led to his arrest and extradition to Pakistan. Zulfiqar was handed over to local police at Lahore airport and brought to Lodhran on Friday.

In a separate incident, two motorcyclists were killed and three others injured in a collision at Tallar Adda near Hasilpur, around 90km from Bahawalpur. Rescue officials said the accident occurred when one of the motorcyclists violated a one-way traffic rule. The deceased were identified as Abid Hussain (35) and Ishaque (65), while the injured—Mahboob, Majid, and Sakhawat—were taken to Hasilpur THQ Hospital.

Meanwhile, the first multi-disciplinary conference on United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Research, Policy and Action 2025, concluded in Bahawalpur. The event, jointly organised by Islamia University (IUB), Government Sadiq College Women’s University (GSCWU), and Cholistan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (CUVAS), focused on social development, poverty eradication, sustainable agriculture, education, gender equality, and climate change.
