Britain’s coldest winter in 15 years disrupts schools, health services

Published on: November 22, 2025 6:45 PM

The UK is experiencing its coldest spell in 15 years, with temperatures dropping to minus 12°C. Schools across the country have closed. Residents, patients, and the elderly face severe difficulties due to the icy conditions.

Northern Scotland recorded the lowest temperature since January 11, reaching minus 12.6°C. Wales saw 7.2°C, England 6.7°C, and Northern Ireland minus 6°C. These drops forced dozens of schools to shut, disrupting education nationwide.

Heavy snowfall and rain caused further closures in Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire, and Ceredigion. Students were unable to attend classes, and many families struggled to cope with the freezing conditions.

The UK Health Security Agency issued amber and yellow warnings, urging citizens to take precautions. Hospitals reported challenges in caring for patients as staff faced commuting issues due to snow and ice.
