Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar on Sunday said that more than 20,000 police officers and personnel were deployed across the province to ensure foolproof security during the by-elections held in national and provincial constituencies.
He said the Punjab Police had devised and implemented comprehensive security arrangements to guarantee the peaceful and uninterrupted conduct of the polling process.
The IG Punjab said CCTV cameras were installed at polling stations to enhance security and ensure real-time monitoring. The election activity, he added, was continuously supervised through the Central Police Office, Punjab Safe Cities Authority, and district-level control and monitoring rooms to maintain strict vigilance and swiftly respond to any emerging situation.
Dr. Usman Anwar said the Punjab Police received full support from the Rangers and the Pakistan Army, whose cooperation played a key role in preventing any attempt by terrorists or miscreants to disrupt peace. He said a province-wide security plan had been formulated in consultation with all relevant departments, covering logistics, communication, transportation, and coordination to maintain order throughout the polling exercise.
He said female police personnel were specially deployed at women’s polling stations and booths to ensure a comfortable and secure environment for female voters. Additionally, personnel from Punjab Constabulary, Punjab Highway Patrol, Elite Force, Special Protection Unit, and the Training Branch were also assigned to election security responsibilities to strengthen on-ground deployment.
The IG said the Punjab Police ensured strict enforcement of security protocols at all polling stations, enabling citizens to exercise their right to vote in a safe and trouble-free atmosphere. He reiterated that the force remained committed to safeguarding the democratic process and maintaining peace and order across the province.
