Dharmendra remembered through Sholay’s iconic bike

Published on: November 26, 2025 6:21 PM

Sholay film 50-year-old bike honours Dharmendra at film festival

GOA – The International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa is paying tribute to the late Dharmendra, as visitors pause to reflect on a 1942 BSA WM20 motorcycle, immortalised in the song Yeh Dosti from the 1975 classic Sholay.

Housed in a glass enclosure, the bike — once ridden by the film’s Jai and Veeru — has become an unexpected memorial following the legendary actor’s passing on Monday, November 24. For many, it is no longer just a prop; it represents Dharmendra, his iconic role as Veeru, and the enduring friendship between the film’s central characters.

Fans shared heartfelt reactions as they viewed the display. One attendee said, “We were so happy seeing this bike. It reminded us of the 1975 movie. Sholay is truly iconic. But now it feels like sad news has come with it. We have lost a great actor today. He worked wonderfully at every age.”

This bike from film “Sholay”, which was used by Dharmendra and Amitabh Bachchan to shoot a five-minute sequence of “Yeh dosti” song, is on display in a glass enclosure in Panaji since the day one of the ongoing 56th @IFFIGoa .

Another fan added, “This is very, very sad news. He was not just a person who has gone; he was an entire era. Seeing this 50-year-old poster and this bike today… it hurts that such a big legend is no longer with us. Meeting Dharmendra ji would have been such a big thing. I feel bad that I never got that chance.”

The bike, polished and untouched for decades, stands as a symbol of friendship, cinematic history, and nostalgia. With Dharmendra gone, it serves as a quiet, poignant reminder of his legacy, the timeless bond of Jai and Veeru, and the golden era of Indian cinema that he helped define.
