Gas pipeline targeted in Peshawar outskirts

Published on: November 27, 2025 11:04 AM

PESHAWAR: An explosion ripped through a gas pipeline in the Hameed Khan Machine area on the outskirts of Peshawar on Wednesday night, according to local residents and police. The blast triggered a fire, raising fears of a larger disruption in gas supply across the province.

SHO Mattani police station Wajid Khan confirmed the incident and said a police team had been dispatched to the site to assess the situation and maintain security. “The pipeline was targeted for the second time; it was previously blown up by terrorists two years ago,” a senior police official added.

Waqas Shinwari, general manager of Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), told Dawn that emergency teams from Kohat and Nowshera were sent to evaluate the damage and contain the fire. He expressed hope that the pipeline was not completely destroyed, as that could severely disrupt gas supply in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Reportedly, militants have blown up a gas pipeline using explosives in Hassan Khel area of Peshawar, Pakistan.

The affected pipeline originates in Karak district and serves as a key transmission line, linking all southern KP gas fields with the main junction in Nowshera. Officials emphasized that any extended damage could impact thousands of households and industries reliant on gas in the province.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the explosion, and security forces are monitoring the area closely. Residents were urged to stay alert and report any suspicious activity near gas infrastructure. SNGPL has assured the public that repair work will begin immediately to restore normal gas flow.

Officials also warned of potential risks of similar attacks on energy infrastructure and urged local communities to cooperate with law enforcement to prevent sabotage. The incident underscores ongoing security concerns regarding critical energy supply lines in the region.
