Petrol price cut by Rs2 per litre, HSD falls by Rs4.79

Published on: December 1, 2025 1:43 PM

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has announced a reduction in petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) prices for the next fortnight, effective from December 1, following recommendations from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) and relevant ministries.

According to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division on Sunday, the price of petrol has been set at Rs263.45 per litre, reflecting a decrease of Rs2 per litre. Similarly, HSD saw a decline of Rs4.79, bringing its price down to Rs279.65 per litre.

Product Existing Price (w.e.f. 16/11/2025) New Price (w.e.f. 1/12/2025) Change
High-Speed Diesel 284.44 279.65 -4.79
Motor Spirit (Petrol) 265.45 263.45 -2.00

The move follows preliminary projections that had suggested a Rs3.70 per litre drop in petrol and Rs4.28 per litre in HSD, attributed to increased global supplies after the revival of several units at Kuwait’s Al-Zour Refinery, one of the Gulf region’s largest refining complexes.

Petrol is predominantly used for private transportation, including small vehicles, rickshaws, and motorcycles. Price reductions directly benefit middle and lower-middle-class commuters. In contrast, high-speed diesel is widely consumed in the transport and agriculture sectors, powering trucks, buses, trains, tractors, tube wells, and threshers.

As HSD constitutes a major component of freight and agricultural operations, its price changes can have a direct inflationary effect, influencing the cost of vegetables and other essential food items. Economists said the recent reduction in fuel prices is expected to provide temporary relief to both consumers and transport operators, though sustained global supply trends will determine further adjustments.
