KARACHI: Clashes broke out on Shahrah-e-Faisal near the FTC Bridge on Sunday as police confronted participants of a rally, causing massive disruption to traffic and public safety. Rally participants blocked roads leading to Karachi airport and Regent Plaza, creating traffic jams that lasted for several hours, while police struggled to assist stranded commuters.

Disturbingly, some participants targeted vehicles, including private ambulances, despite emergency sirens. Video footage showed unidentified individuals vandalizing ambulance doors and windows using sticks, fists, and kicks.

The situation escalated further with intermittent stone-throwing, prompting Karachi police to deploy tear gas in an attempt to disperse the crowds. Roads in front of Shahrah-e-Faisal FTC were blocked with makeshift barricades, forcing authorities to redirect traffic.

Several individuals involved in the attacks were taken into custody. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) South, Asad Raza, confirmed that while some detainees have been released, those directly involved in damaging vehicles remain under arrest.

Authorities temporarily closed the Red Zone and redirected citizens to alternative routes to ease congestion. Earlier, police had instructed rally participants to take different paths, but many refused, leading to repeated confrontations.

The prolonged standoff caused long queues of vehicles and severe traffic disruption along the main artery of Karachi. Police conducted a baton charge to disperse protesters after multiple vehicles suffered damage due to stone-throwing.

Authorities continue to maintain a strong presence in the area to prevent further escalation and ensure the safety of citizens and emergency services. Traffic management teams are working to restore normal flow on the congested routes.
