Pakistan Football League to be launched in a new, modern way: PFF Chief Mohsen Gilani

Published on: December 10, 2025 8:30 PM

Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) President Syed Mohsen Gilani has announced that the long-awaited Pakistan Football League will be launched in a ‘new, modern and professional way’, revealing that the federation has already received an encouraging number of proposals from interested parties through the Official Letter of Intent (LOI) process.

“For the football league, we have asked for a letter of intent and we have received a good number of proposals from those who want to conduct the league in a better and new way,” Gilani said. “Since we are starting fresh, we want a better structure and a stronger system to ensure long-term success.”

Addressing the most pressing issue facing Pakistani footballers, Gilani strongly called on government departments to restore their sports units, stressing that departmental teams have historically been the backbone of football in the country. “Our players need jobs, and departments provide not just employment but stability and dignity,” he said. “I once again urge departmental heads, and especially the Prime Minister of Pakistan, to revive departmental sports, as he has already announced it publicly. Football cannot grow without support at the institutional level.”

Gilani praised Lahore’s sporting culture, calling it the heartbeat of football development. “Lahore has always been a hub of sports. We want continuous matches, leagues and activity. Amir Dogar is an excellent organizer, and we need more people with that same passion. We are fully committed to supporting grassroots football because this is where future stars are developed.”

On international ambitions, the PFF chief said consultations with FIFA and AFC are ongoing. “Launching an international-standard league requires planning and guidance. Insha’Allah, we aim to take concrete steps next year.” He also confirmed that the post of PFF General Secretary will be filled soon. “We have shortlisted candidates and aim to appoint the best person for the job.”

BABA FC WIN DISTRICT TITLE

Meanwhile, football action on the ground matched the momentum in administration as Baba Football Club lifted the District Football Championship trophy after edging out Fame Sports Club on penalty kicks in a thrilling final played under floodlights at Fame Football Ground.

The match ended goalless after regulation time, with both teams showing disciplined defense and missed opportunities in attack. In the penalty shootout, Baba FC held their nerve to win 5–4.

PFF President Syed Mohsen Gilani attended the final as chief guest and distributed trophies and medals. Also present were PFF Senior Vice President Hafiz Zaka, Punjab FA President Naveed Aslam Lodhi, DFA Lahore President Zia Arif Dogar, and former NC member Shahid Khokhar.

PFF Vice President Hafiz Zaka Ullah revealed that talks with departments for team revival are underway, while Lodhi confirmed that the Punjab FA Congress meeting will be held later this month, followed by release of the annual calendar.
