Pakistan, Sri Lanka pledge stronger defence ties

The High Commissioner of Sri Lanka, Rear Admiral (Retd) Fre Seneviratne, met with Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Monday, reinforcing the longstanding friendship between the two countries. The meeting highlighted the importance of strengthening bilateral relations in key regional and global contexts.

Minister Khawaja Asif emphasized that Pakistan considers Sri Lanka a vital regional partner, contributing significantly to both regional stability and global peace. He reiterated Pakistan’s respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Sri Lanka, underscoring mutual trust between the nations.

During the discussion, the Minister stressed the need to further cement existing ties by building on the positive trajectory of multifaceted relations. Both sides acknowledged that shared views on major issues provide a strong foundation for future collaboration.

The Sri Lankan High Commissioner expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s timely humanitarian assistance and support during challenging times. He also praised the professionalism and achievements of the Pakistan Armed Forces, particularly in counter-terrorism operations, reflecting mutual respect and confidence.

Both officials expressed satisfaction with ongoing cooperation and explored ways to expand collaboration in areas of mutual interest. They agreed that enhancing defense, security, and humanitarian coordination would benefit both nations and the wider region.

The meeting concluded with a commitment to maintain close communication and continue initiatives that strengthen bilateral relations. Pakistan and Sri Lanka aim to deepen cooperation in defense, humanitarian assistance, and regional security, reflecting a shared vision for peace.
