Punjab cuts transport fares after diesel drop

Published on: December 17, 2025 9:35 PM

Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan has ordered an immediate reduction in transport fares following a significant decrease in diesel prices. The government aims to pass the benefits directly to commuters across the province. Officials have been instructed to implement the changes without delay.

Authorities have been directed to issue updated fare lists and form monitoring teams in all districts. These teams will ensure that transporters comply with the new rates and prevent any overcharging of passengers. Strict supervision is expected to maintain transparency and fairness.

The minister emphasized that Regional Transport Authorities must submit regular reports confirming fare reductions. This step is part of a broader effort to protect the public and ensure that lower fuel costs are reflected in passenger fares. Compliance will be closely monitored.

Moreover, transporters charging higher than approved fares will face strict action. Authorities have also been ordered to refund any excess amounts collected from passengers immediately. The government warned that violations would not be tolerated under any circumstances.

Bilal Akbar Khan highlighted the government’s commitment to easing the financial burden on citizens. He stated that timely implementation of fare reductions is crucial to ensure commuters directly benefit from lower diesel prices. Public cooperation was also requested.

Officials believe that the measure will encourage fair practices in the transport sector and promote accountability among service providers. The initiative reflects the government’s proactive approach to consumer protection and public welfare across Punjab.
