To provide relief to public transporters, a new draft is in the offing. Keeping in view the demands of transporters, regarding challans and vehicles’ health of HTV, LTV and PVS, committees were formed to scrutinizes real issues transporter are facing. The committees have prepared proposals for amendments to the ordinance.
According to details received from Traffic Police officials, the formed-committees include representatives from the traffic department, transporters, the Environment Protection Agency (EPA) and the district administration. The committees have finalised proposals to change the modus operandi of fines on traffic violations, challans and other issues.
According to recommendations of committees, traffic police or the Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) will not re-challan in the same trip. Only one challan will be issued at a time for violation of traffic rules. Earlier, multiple challans were issued for various violations during a single trip; moreover, according to recommendations, video recording will be mandatory for traffic rule violations.
Challans will not be issued without video evidence. The scope of Vehicle Inspection Centre (VICS) centres for vehicle fitness certificates will be expanded, (VICS) centres should be established at bus stations (Lorri-adda) in Lahore and at the entrances and exits of the city. Public transport car permits will be extended from one year to three years.
The management of bus stations should be handed over to the Transport Department instead of the District Administration. The draft amendments will be sent to the government for approval this week.
