Quetta sees first winter rain, temperatures drop

Published on: December 20, 2025 6:30 PM

Quetta and border areas of Balochistan experienced the first winter rains, causing a sharp drop in temperatures. Heavy rainfall affected Pak-Afghan and Pak-Iran border regions, leading to water accumulation in low-lying areas. The Meteorological Department confirmed the system brought both rain and snowfall in higher elevations.

Rainfall also increased cold in surrounding areas, including Chaman, Qila Abdullah, Zhob, and Toba Achakzai. Temperatures fell further in Quetta and nearby towns, with Qalat recording minus 3 degrees Celsius. Residents reported chilly winds and wet conditions, prompting warnings for vulnerable communities.

The Meteorological Department said a western disturbance is responsible for the precipitation. Snowfall is expected over northern mountain areas, including Kozhak Top, Shelabagh, and Khwaja Imran Range. Authorities urged travelers to take precautions in high-altitude regions.

Low-lying areas saw waterlogging, affecting roads and daily life. Local administrations advised residents to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain. Meanwhile, emergency services remained on alert to assist stranded people.
