Lahore rolls out new sanitation bill system

Published on: December 20, 2025 4:57 PM

Punjab government has finalized a new system to collect sanitation bills from Lahore residents. Monthly bills will start in January 2026, shifting to annual payments from June. Small homes under 3 marlas will be exempt from the garbage tax.

The Excise Department will now manage sanitation bill collection under the “Clean Punjab” initiative. Residential users from 5 marlas to 2 kanals will pay between Rs300 and Rs2,000. Commercial urban properties will be charged Rs500 to Rs2,000 based on their size and category. Rural households will pay Rs200 to Rs400, while rural commercial users will pay Rs300 to Rs1,000.

From January 2026, the Excise Department will send monthly bills to residents. This will continue for six months to familiarize citizens with the system. After June 2026, bills will switch to an annual payment schedule. The move aims to improve efficiency in waste management and revenue collection.

The exemption for smaller homes and a tiered system for other properties reflects efforts to balance affordability with public service needs. Authorities stated that this structured approach will encourage timely payments and ensure better sanitation services across Lahore.

Officials urged citizens to cooperate with the new system and pay bills promptly. The government plans awareness campaigns before the full implementation in June 2026. Timely payments are expected to fund enhanced waste collection and city cleanliness.
