Iran rejects talks on missile programme, calls it deterrent

Published on: December 22, 2025 10:00 PM

Tehran, 22 December 2025: Iran said its missile programme is defensive and not open to negotiation. The programme is meant to protect Iran and deter attacks. Foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei emphasized that Iran’s defense capabilities are non-negotiable.

Israel considers Iran’s ballistic missiles and nuclear programme its main threats. During the 12-day war in June, Israel struck Iranian military sites and nuclear facilities. Iran responded with missiles and drones targeting Israeli cities.

The missile strikes during the war killed 28 people in Israel, while Israel’s attacks killed more than 1,000 in Iran. Iran’s missiles now put Israel within striking range, heightening tensions in the region.

US broadcaster NBC reported that Israel plans to seek US support for any future military actions. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu will discuss options with President Trump during a visit later this month.

Iran has built its domestic weapons industry after 1979. The country vows to rebuild nuclear sites stronger than before. Tehran insists its missile programme exists solely to defend its territory and deter aggressors.
