Violent protests in Assam against Modi govt policies leave several dead

Several people were killed and many injured in violent protests across Assam, India, over Modi government policies. Tribal communities clashed with non-local settlers over land occupation. Authorities imposed a curfew and restricted internet access to control the unrest.

Protests erupted in Karbi Anglong and Kheroni districts, where local tribes accused outsiders of illegally occupying land. The settlers’ presence threatens local resources and demographic balance. Residents demanded the immediate removal of non-locals from agricultural and commercial lands. Meanwhile, police increased security to prevent further clashes and maintain order.

Protests reflect deeper frustrations over land rights and government policies favoring non-local settlers. Activists warned that unresolved grievances could escalate if authorities fail to act promptly.
