The Sindh government on Tuesday inaugurated a direct connection between Karachi’s Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Orange Line and Green Line, a move aimed at easing travel for commuters between Orangi Town and Numaish. Senior Minister for Information and Transport Sharjeel Inam Memon formally inaugurated the link at a ceremony held at the Orange Line depot.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Memon said that the integration of the two BRT corridors would allow passengers to complete their journey on a single ticket. He noted that commuters previously had to pay separate fares to use both lines, which often drew complaints from the public. With the new connection, he said, around 100,000 people are expected to benefit daily from reduced travel costs and improved convenience.

The Orange Line runs from Orangi Town to North Nazimabad, while the Green Line connects Surjani Town with Numaish via North Nazimabad. The new link allows seamless movement between the two corridors without changing tickets. According to the minister, this integration marks another step towards building a more efficient mass transit network in Karachi.
Mr Memon said that ridership on the Green Line had increased significantly since the Sindh government took over its operations. During the previous federal government’s tenure, daily ridership stood at around 55,000, which has now risen to nearly 80,000 passengers. He added that fares had been kept affordable to encourage greater public use of mass transit.
He further said that the BRT buses were equipped with security cameras and modern facilities to ensure passenger safety. Separate buses for women would also be operated on both the Orange and Green lines to provide a more comfortable travel environment.

The senior minister also announced that double-decker buses would start operating in Karachi from Wednesday as a New Year initiative. He said the double-deckers would initially run from Malir to Sharea Faisal, with plans to induct more such buses in the future to help reduce traffic congestion. New electric buses, he added, had also arrived in the city.
