Saba Faisal criticised for remarks on newlywed brides

Published on: January 6, 2026 4:43 PM

Senior Pakistani actress Saba Faisal has faced backlash on social media after making comments about the role of newlywed brides in their in-laws’ homes. Faisal, a veteran of the entertainment industry, shared her views during a morning show on a private TV channel.

During the programme, she stated that after a wedding, the household is usually filled with guests and responsibilities, most of which are managed by the mother-in-law. She suggested that a newly married bride does not carry immediate responsibilities and should seek permission from her mother-in-law or sister-in-law if she wishes to rest.

Faisal also emphasized that the tone and approach matter, claiming that even strict in-laws would likely grant rest if the request is made respectfully. Her remarks aimed to explain traditional family dynamics but sparked strong reactions online.

Social media users criticised her views as outdated and unfair, arguing that such expectations are no longer relevant in modern households. One user commented, “If you are talking about hostel or in-laws’ home?” while another suggested the actress should avoid morning shows due to her controversial statements.

The incident highlights the ongoing debate in Pakistan over traditional expectations placed on newlywed women and the evolving roles of brides in joint families. Faisal has not issued a response following the criticism, but the discussion continues across social media platforms.
