Chinese Trump impersonator goes viral online

Published on: January 9, 2026 12:08 PM

CHONGQING – Chinese impersonator Ryan Chen, a 42-year-old from southwest China, has become a social media sensation for his accurate impersonations of US President Donald Trump. Known for mimicking Trump’s voice, gestures, and signature phrases such as “tremendous” and “amazing,” Chen has gained millions of followers on platforms including Instagram, TikTok, and Chinese video apps.

Unlike many impersonators abroad, Chen avoids political satire, focusing instead on humorous videos that showcase Chinese culture, cuisine, and customs. He also dances to songs associated with Trump’s public appearances and interacts with foreigners in his clips, which are in English with Chinese subtitles.

Chen said his impersonations are not intended to mock Trump but to attract attention and promote his hometown of Chongqing. “I’m not into politics, but I think he is a very good entertainer,” he said, wearing a white cowboy hat in one video. “With that attention, I can boost my career, as well as promote China and my hometown.”

The architect-turned-content-creator stumbled upon online fame by chance, launching his videos in 2025 after Trump returned to the White House. Chen had previously been exploring online teaching of English as a backup plan following a downturn in China’s property and architecture sector.
