Pakistan emerges as regional diplomatic power, gains recognition: report

Published on: January 11, 2026 1:36 AM

Pakistan has emerged as a central diplomatic force in the region thanks to its exceptional diplomacy, according to a report by the international magazine The Diplomat.

The report highlights that Pakistan’s growing influence and its adept diplomatic strategies have earned significant recognition, particularly from China. The publication noted that Pakistan’s consistent stance on national issues and counterterrorism has received appreciation at the global level. As a result, Pakistan has become the center of attention in the region due to its diplomatic prowess.

The report further notes that China considers Pakistan as an economically robust country, capable of playing an effective role within and beyond its borders. Pakistan has successfully maintained constructive relations with the United States while strengthening its strategic partnership with China, reflecting a responsible and balanced diplomatic approach.

It said Beijing supports Pakistan’s role in regional and international affairs and views Islamabad as a suitable candidate for key positions, including leadership roles within the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation and at the United Nations Security Council. Pakistan, in return, values its strategic partnership with China across various sectors.

The magazine added that China values its strategic partnership with Pakistan across multiple sectors and has reiterated support for Pakistan’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity. It also noted that China has called for the Kashmir issue to be resolved in line with UN Security Council resolutions.

On Afghanistan, The Diplomat said China has urged the Taliban to form an inclusive government, take verifiable action against militant groups and adopt moderation while maintaining good relations with neighbouring countries. China remains a strong advocate of Pakistan’s policies on both regional and global levels.

Analysts said China’s backing of Pakistan’s current policies amounts to a strong endorsement of Islamabad’s diplomatic stance, with The Diplomat effectively validating Pakistan’s foreign policy and counterterrorism position.
