A severe cold wave continues to grip Pakistan, as heavy snowfall blankets northern mountains while icy winds sweep across plains, sharply lowering temperatures and intensifying winter hardships nationwide.
In Hunza, the mercury plunged to minus 21 degrees Celsius, marking the lowest temperature recorded in the country, while nearby regions also reported extreme subzero conditions.

Meanwhile, minimum temperatures dropped to minus 19 degrees in Astore, minus 11 in Chilas, and minus eight in Kalat, as snowfall over Babusar Top and Nanga Parbat intensified the cold.
At the same time, major cities felt a sharp chill, with Islamabad recording two degrees Celsius, Lahore three, Peshawar four, and Karachi seven, highlighting the widespread reach of the cold spell.

However, dense fog and freezing conditions severely disrupted daily life in Punjab, forcing authorities to close several motorways, including M2, M3, M4, M5, and M11, due to dangerously low visibility.
As a result, traffic on national highways across Lahore, Okara, Multan, Bahawalpur, and Rahim Yar Khan slowed significantly, while authorities urged travelers to avoid unnecessary journeys amid hazardous conditions.
